This short-story was conceived from the name of a real Creek in Central Qld., Au. Trickling between two small towns is a name so out of place, I remembered it all my life. Tchernaya Ck.! Obviously of Russian origin. Thus, my tale came to life to suppose how it got that name in the middle of Qld., AU: 

A white Russian and a native black ('ancAu' = ancient Australian), together in Central Queensland, in the early 1900’s, was guaranteed to set tongues wagging. With a shortage of white women in the new raw colony of Queensland, Russian immigrant Tchernaya Kreyanoff, was pledged as a teen to a local landholder: a man used to getting what he wanted and rich enough to have others ensure his wishes were granted. Tchernaya however, was no wallflower. To this very day on Queensland’s east-coast Bruce Highway, that infamous road crosses over a small Creek-bed that carries her name alone…
