I met Dane on Twitter back on that original Tweet I posted that was the precursor of this website when I asked for books to review. He very wonderfully sent me a hard copy of his book to read. I glanced through it and then set it down somewhere and got so busy I forgot where I put it! When I finally remembered that I had this book of poetry to read, I couldn’t find it! I was mortified. I can’t believe that this person I had never met before sent me a copy of his book out of the kindness of his heart and I LOST it. My roommate and I tore the house apart for the better part of a week looking for it with no luck at all. I was really upset with myself and pretty hard on myself for losing it. About three weeks after that, I was cleaning up a spill underneath my desk and I saw this precious book just sitting, as innocent as you please, propped up against the wall under my desk. I was so relieved, I was elated. Finally, I was going to be able to read this book!

I want to preface this next part by saying that poetry is subjective. You’re not going to like everyone’s style of prose, same as you won’t like everyone’s novels. You do have a better chance of liking a book if it’s written in your favorite reading genre. Poetry is not like that. There are literally thousands of ways to write it that no two people will read (or interpret) your prose the same.

All of that to say, I wasn’t immediately enthralled by Dane’s style. I was, quite frankly, frustrated with myself for not enjoying it as much as I had wanted. But I was determined to give it another chance and I’m glad I did. Once I let go of any preconceived notions I may have had going in, I really started to enjoy it. It is because I was able to do that that I gave Dane’s book 5 stars.

My Amazon Review

Dane Thomas uses his poetry to cut right to the heart of the matter. You won’t find any flowery imagery here, only straight talk. He sits you down and tells you what you need to hear, even if you don’t know you needed it. His poetry is refreshing and covers a myriad of topics so that everyone can find something about his writing that they love.
